PLAN YOUR NEXT PROJECT

Planning costs for a home service project

Prepare a clear request, compare the scope of work and keep your project information together.

What to include in your request

Give each provider the same description of the work so their proposals can be compared. Include dimensions, quantities, existing equipment or materials, photos already available and your preferred schedule. The scope, site access, materials and timing can all affect the proposal; a generic city or service average is not a quote for your property.

What to clarify with the provider

Request an itemized written proposal showing the work, materials, labour, applicable charges and exclusions. Ask whether the amount is an estimate or a fixed quote, which assumptions it uses and how additional work will be approved. Compare the same scope across proposals and keep the accepted version with your project documents.

Before confirming a visit

Confirm that the company serves your address, the appointment window and the contact person. Request a written proposal covering the agreed work and exclusions. Save messages, documents and photos so both sides can refer to the same information. This guide does not list local providers or confirm their availability.
